About Me
Modern Medicine Saves Lives Every Day

I have had diabetes my entire life, and I am very thankful for the fact that modern medical discoveries have helped me live a happy, healthy life despite my disease. I have had to watch what I eat and take medications daily for most of my life, and while i used to feel like I was "missing out" when other children were able to eat sugary candy and I wasn't, I eventually learned that sugar-free candy tastes great. I am always keeping up on the latest diabetes research, and while researching, I have also learned about many other diseases and ailments and how they are treated and controlled. I know others are too busy to browse a bunch of medical websites, like I like to do, so I decided to start a blog that others can visit that contains information on a variety of medical topics all in one place!

Don't Let Your Wheelchair Slow You Down: 4 Places To Have A Fantastic Vacation

For Content

If you've always wanted to go on a vacation, but have always been held back by your disability and your wheelchair, it's time to get out of your comfort zone. There are numerous spots across the country that are perfect for vacationing alone, with your significant other or your family, even if you're in a wheelchair. Don't let your disability keep you from having fun and making a lifetime of memories with your loved ones. Here are four places you can go to have a good time regardless of the fact that you are in a wheelchair or have limited mobility:

1. The Beach

When you head to the beach, you may think about sandy white beaches and clear blue waters. While that is a major part of the beach, it isn't the only around. Since it could be virtually impossible to wheel your wheelchair through the hard-to-maneuver sand (unless you have some awesome suspension and wide tires), you could instead enjoy the views of the water from the pier and even go fishing. Alternatively, you could cruise up and down the boardwalk and enjoy the various street performers. You even have the option of a picnic on a low bluff or cliff. And don't forget to soak up the sun and tan your skin!

2. National Parks

You could consider visiting various National Parks throughout the United States, as you can get a free lifetime pass. There are 58 parks across the country that offer accessible tours, shuttles and accommodations in addition to various interactive exhibits with audio. With the chance to see magnificent views and the opportunity to make memorable memories that will last a lifetime, what are you waiting for?

3. Theme Parks

There is a theme park in almost every state in the U.S. For individuals with disabilities, you can often get priority, front-of-the-line access. There are accessible ramps to rides and even resorts that the parks that offer lodging. Some theme parks even have outdoor nature paths and gardens that are accessible for wheelchair users.

4. Cruises

Believe it or not, there are many cruises that have accessible ramps, elevators and bathrooms. You may even be able to get access to advanced seating for the on-ship restaurants, shows and theaters. With accessible and paved ramps throughout the cruise ship, you'll have easy access to some of the best scenic views.

If you plan on taking a trip, you'll want to make sure that your wheelchair is in tip-top condition. If it isn't, you may want to undergo any necessary repairs or purchase a new one. The last thing you want while on vacation is something happening to your wheelchair and turning your fun-filled vacation into something less than pleasant.
