About Me
Modern Medicine Saves Lives Every Day

I have had diabetes my entire life, and I am very thankful for the fact that modern medical discoveries have helped me live a happy, healthy life despite my disease. I have had to watch what I eat and take medications daily for most of my life, and while i used to feel like I was "missing out" when other children were able to eat sugary candy and I wasn't, I eventually learned that sugar-free candy tastes great. I am always keeping up on the latest diabetes research, and while researching, I have also learned about many other diseases and ailments and how they are treated and controlled. I know others are too busy to browse a bunch of medical websites, like I like to do, so I decided to start a blog that others can visit that contains information on a variety of medical topics all in one place!

Health Conditions That Can Be Bettered by Weight Loss

For Content

When many people think about losing weight, they do so for reasons that are mainly aesthetic, or appearance based. However, the reality is that if a person is overweight or obese, the benefits of losing weight are far more extensive than just improving looks. Weight loss can actually help to alleviate certain medical conditions or, at the very least, improve them. While many people rely on medications and other interventions to manage such conditions, basic lifestyle changes may be just the ticket. Get to know some of the health conditions that can be bettered by weight loss and see if you can make those necessary changes in your life to improve your health.

Cancer

Very few people realize the risk factors associated with developing cancer. They blame external factors such as chemicals, food additives, and the like. However, while some of those external factors cannot be controlled, the internal factors can be. A person's weight is one of those factors.

Numerous types of cancer have been linked to being overweight and obese including breast cancer, kidney cancer, and even pancreatic cancer. Losing weight can, therefore lower a person's risk of developing those cancers and may even prevent cancer.

Gastric Ulcers

People who are obese may also be more prone to gastric ulcers than other people. While there is not necessarily a consensus on the exact reasons behind the link between gastric ulcers and obesity, the predominant theory is that obesity can cause gastric inflammation and imbalances in stomach enzymes that contribute to the development of gastric ulcers.

Losing weight, even a few excess pounds, can make a big difference when it comes to the development of gastric ulcers. However, if a person has already developed an ulcer, additional treatments and monitoring will be necessary to get rid of the existing condition.

Infertility

Obesity and being overweight can affect a person's chances of conceiving a child. This is a condition that primarily affects women (though overweight men may have issues with sperm motility and health).

Women who are overweight may suffer from hormonal imbalances, which in turn can cause problems with ovulation and menstruation. As such, losing excess weight can help a woman to get her reproductive system back on track and improve her chances of conceiving if she has been struggling to do so.

These and many other medical conditions can be bettered by weight loss. If you are suffering from any of these medical issues, talk to a doctor, like one from Martin Medical Center, about the best and safest ways to go about losing your excess weight and get started as soon as possible.
