About Me
Modern Medicine Saves Lives Every Day

I have had diabetes my entire life, and I am very thankful for the fact that modern medical discoveries have helped me live a happy, healthy life despite my disease. I have had to watch what I eat and take medications daily for most of my life, and while i used to feel like I was "missing out" when other children were able to eat sugary candy and I wasn't, I eventually learned that sugar-free candy tastes great. I am always keeping up on the latest diabetes research, and while researching, I have also learned about many other diseases and ailments and how they are treated and controlled. I know others are too busy to browse a bunch of medical websites, like I like to do, so I decided to start a blog that others can visit that contains information on a variety of medical topics all in one place!

3 Tips For New Contact Lens Wearers

For Content

So you finally decided to ditch your glasses and switch over to contact lenses! Now that you are a new contact lens wearer, you should be aware of a few things when it comes to wearing and caring for your contact lenses. Follow these tips as a new contact lens wearer to ensure that you have the safest and easiest transition to contact lenses possible

Make Sure They Aren't Inside Out

Before You Put Them In Contact lenses aren't made to go into your eye any direction, and it is possible to put your contact lenses on inside out. When this happens, you might feel irritation in your eye and detect an inability to see clearly. In order to make sure you don't put your lenses on inside out, you should place the lens on your finger until a cup is formed. The cup should be a uniform U shape. If it is in the shape of a U but has flared edges, it is inside out and you should right it before you put it in your eye.

Care For and Store Them Properly

Lenses can't just be taken out and tossed into a glass of water, ready to be worn again the next morning. Instead, they should go into their own special case each night with contact solution. Before you put them in their case, you should wash your hands and gently rub the lenses with a few drops of solution. This cleans off any buildup that might be on your lenses. You can then store them In their case.

Follow Manufacturers Instructions For Wear

Some contact lenses are made to be worn once and then thrown away, while some are made for wearing a few weeks at a time before they are thrown away. In the same vein, some contact lenses are specially manufactured so that you can wear them night and day and don't ever need to be taken out, while others need to be taken out each night before you go to sleep. Before you take your contact lenses home, talk to your optometrist about how your lenses are manufactured and how the manufacturer has instructed them to be used. Don't ever sleep in contact lenses that aren't specially made for that purpose, or you could end up with an eye infection. Likewise, if you don't change your contact lenses often enough you could end up with an infection.

Keep these things in mind as you transition to your new lenses and you will be sure that you stay safe and keep your eyes and contact lenses healthy. Contact a business, such as The Eye Center, for more information.
