About Me
Modern Medicine Saves Lives Every Day

I have had diabetes my entire life, and I am very thankful for the fact that modern medical discoveries have helped me live a happy, healthy life despite my disease. I have had to watch what I eat and take medications daily for most of my life, and while i used to feel like I was "missing out" when other children were able to eat sugary candy and I wasn't, I eventually learned that sugar-free candy tastes great. I am always keeping up on the latest diabetes research, and while researching, I have also learned about many other diseases and ailments and how they are treated and controlled. I know others are too busy to browse a bunch of medical websites, like I like to do, so I decided to start a blog that others can visit that contains information on a variety of medical topics all in one place!

Reducing Anxiety

For Content

If you are one of the millions of people suffering from anxiety, you know how much it can affect your everyday existence. Anxiety cannot be controlled by willpower, and sometimes medication alone cannot take care of the problem. For the best results, you should try a combination of methods to help your anxiety problem.

Medication

Although medication for anxiety is somewhat controversial, when taken in moderation, it can help ease the overwhelming dread and fear that sufferers feel, sometimes on a daily basis. The most common medications prescribed for this condition include benzodiazepines such as Xanax, Klonopin, Valium, and Ativan. Certain anti-depressants and beta-blockers are also used to help control the condition. They do not cure anxiety, and, once you stop taking them, the anxiety will come back in full force. That effect is why doctors recommend addressing the underlying causes of anxiety, often with a therapist, and using other methods to help control the symptoms.

Physical Health

People who take care of their bodies often find that their anxiety is greatly reduced. Eating right and getting enough sleep can help prevent attacks of catastrophic thinking and generalized panic. Avoiding stimulants such as caffeine and sugar is also quite helpful. You want to calm your mind instead of firing it up with these substances. Exercise is one of the most natural and effective ways to deal with anxiety. Even a daily walk can help you feel both physically and mentally better because exercise releases endorphins into your system. Whenever you feel an attack coming on, get moving. Take a brief jog, walk, or exercise break to combat the bad feelings.

Massage

Research shows that people who receive massage therapy have less stress and anxiety. The act of massage has been found to lower levels of cortisol, the hormone that is produced by stress. Also, the patients' serotonin and dopamine increased after massage therapy. These two neurotransmitters can deliver a feeling of well-being and calm. Often, your chiropractor will offer this service along with regular chiropractic care, and the price for a half-hour or hour massage is generally quite reasonable. Contact a local chiropractor, like those at Excellence In Health Chiropractic & Rehab Clinic or similar offices, for more information.

If you are one of the many people who suffer from chronic or acute anxiety, a combination of control methods may work for you. Generally, a healthy lifestyle can do much to relieve your condition. Sometimes, psychological therapy helps as does medication and massage. Do not be discouraged if you are plagued by anxiety. You can find a combination of treatments that should work for you.
