Modern Medicine Saves Lives Every Day

I have had diabetes my entire life, and I am very thankful for the fact that modern medical discoveries have helped me live a happy, healthy life despite my disease. I have had to watch what I eat and take medications daily for most of my life, and while i used to feel like I was "missing out" when other children were able to eat sugary candy and I wasn't, I eventually learned that sugar-free candy tastes great. I am always keeping up on the latest diabetes research, and while researching, I have also learned about many other diseases and ailments and how they are treated and controlled. I know others are too busy to browse a bunch of medical websites, like I like to do, so I decided to start a blog that others can visit that contains information on a variety of medical topics all in one place!

Natural Methods For Treating A Sinus Infection In The Comfort Of Your Home

For Content

According to WebMD, colds are one of the things that can lead to a sinus infection. This unpleasant condition results in a headache or facial pain, as well as congestion and post nasal drip. Fortunately, there are a few sinusitis treatments you can try in the comfort of your own home.

Nasal Irrigation

The first thing you'll want to do is begin irrigating your nasal passages with a Neti Pot. Fill your Neti Pot with one teaspoon of table salt and one pint of distilled water. Make sure the water is room temperature so it's not too hot or too cold when you use it. This solution will remove dust and allergens, reduce the inflammation in your sinus passages, and thin your mucus. Repeat several times per day until your beginning to feel better.

Take Oil of Oregano

Earth Clinic recommends placing a drop or two of oil of oregano under your tongue once per day until the infection clears up. This all-natural oil has both antibacterial and antiviral properties and is loaded with antioxidants. It will treat the actual infection, not just the symptoms. It also has the power to reduce inflammation. Sinusitis sufferers can use it along with the Neti Pot for faster relief.

Make a Steam Inhalation

Inhaling steam is not only great for sinus infections, but also for colds, coughs, and even sore throats. The process is also a simple one. Boil some water and then pour it into a bowl. Add three to four drops of Eucalyptus essential oil, which works as a natural decongestant. The steam itself moistens your mucus membranes. Place a towel over your head and lean over the bowl at a safe enough distance that you won't get burned. Breathe in the steam for a few minutes, or until the water stops steaming. Repeat several times a day as needed.

Take Vitamin C

The National Institutes of Health Office of Dietary Supplements reports that vitamin C helps the immune system work properly so that your body can do what it was designed to do and fight off that sinus infection. Most adults require between 75 and 90 mg, which you can get from food sources, or by taking a supplement. A supplement is ideal when you're sick, because you may have a loss of appetite that prevents you from eating foods that are high in vitamin C.

When home therapies seem to be failing, make an appointment with your doctor. You may be suffering from a stubborn case that won't go away without modern medical intervention.
