Modern Medicine Saves Lives Every Day

I have had diabetes my entire life, and I am very thankful for the fact that modern medical discoveries have helped me live a happy, healthy life despite my disease. I have had to watch what I eat and take medications daily for most of my life, and while i used to feel like I was "missing out" when other children were able to eat sugary candy and I wasn't, I eventually learned that sugar-free candy tastes great. I am always keeping up on the latest diabetes research, and while researching, I have also learned about many other diseases and ailments and how they are treated and controlled. I know others are too busy to browse a bunch of medical websites, like I like to do, so I decided to start a blog that others can visit that contains information on a variety of medical topics all in one place!

The Top Summer Pediatrician Services

For Content

Does your child need summertime pediatrician services? Between vacation and long days at the pool, the last thing on your mind is a doctor's office visit. But this doesn't mean your child won't need a visit to the peds practice between June and September. Take a look at the top reasons children need to see the pediatrician in the summer and the benefits these warm-weather appointments offer.

Sports and Camp Physicals

Many summertime athletic and camp programs require a pre-attendance physical. Before your child's baseball league, soccer camp, or neighborhood outdoor adventure program starts, ask the team/camp coach, director, or staff if your child needs a completed physical form. Some of these programs allow the doctor to sign the form without an actual physical. This option may only apply to children who've had a recent well visit.

If your child hasn't had a well visit (check-up) in the past few months or the program requires a separate physical, schedule an appointment as soon as possible. Your child isn't the only one who will need a sports or camp pre-participation physical.

School Physicals

Does your child's school require a physical before the start of the next academic year? If your child needs a pre-school physical, now is the perfect time for a doctor's appointment. Like sports and camp physicals, school physical forms may only require a pediatrician's signature. Again, if your child hasn't had a check-up recently, it's likely they'll need to see the pediatrician for an office visit.

Even though school, sports, and camp physicals are mandatory, they're also beneficial. These appointments are more than just a formality or a way to comply with a school's, league's, or other program's health requirements. A pre-participation physical is a preventative medical service that can help the doctor to track your child's growth/development and spot some types of medical conditions. This service also gives you (or your child) the chance to raise concerns and ask questions.

Seasonal Issues

The summer is filled with sun and fun. This means your child will have the opportunity to get up, get out, and get active. Even though the increased activity and outdoor time is a welcome addition to your child's day, it also increases some risks. These include allergies, sunburn, and heat-related illnesses.

If your child is suddenly congested when they go outside, has a blistering sunburn, or doesn't feel well after spending time in the hot weather, contact the pediatrician as soon as possible for an appointment. The pediatrician will examine your child and help them to get back on track—and back to summertime fun.
